چکیده

For the first time, 2018 edition of Turkish Building Earthquake Code has added a dedicated chapter for design high-rise buildings in earthquake-prone areas. Keeping view widely practised option rigid shear walls at centre structure, latest code additionally defined limits shear-wall axial forces buildings. The new force have not been independently investigated optimal and criticality. This calls detailed investigation newly Turkey, where seismic activity historically remained high. study, therefore, investigates effect variation limit values wall on collapse prevention such A building designed entirely according to was chosen as base model. location is Istanbul, which highest number tall compared other cities Turkey. total 7 alternative models were created by changing concrete material class thickness walls. approach allowed us quantify its criticality against another important consideration, i.e., compressive strength concrete. Forty different earthquake ground motion records used analyse determine how critical ratio terms probability. method proposed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) document FEMA P695 followed levels structures. nonlinear analysis performed failure safety models. Results indicate that an increase or decrease ratios more than 15% renders structure either overdesigned deficient. Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-2022-08-03-011 Full Text: PDF

Seismic fragility assessment of RC moment resisting frame buildings designed for different editions of Iranian seismic design code

Background and objective: Developing fragility and vulnerability functions are important tools in seismic reliability assessment of buildings and are widely used in regional seismic risk studies. To date sufficient studies for developing analytical fragility functions for Iranian code-conforming buildings have not been carried out. Performing such studies are necessary to assess the adequacy of...

A Comparison of Seismic Safety of Steel MRF Designed According to Different Editions of Iranian Seismic Code

In this paper, efforts are made to compare the safety of steel moment resistant frames designed according to different editions of the Iranian code of Practice for seismic resistant design of buildings. Also, failure risk of a low and medium height frame which designed for high and low seismicity regions according to three editions of the code are evaluated. First, the testing cases were design...

Performance based seismic assessment of bridges designed according to Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code

Recent research efforts have focused on the development of performance based seismic design methodologies for structures. However, the seismic design rules prescribed in the current Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) is based largely on force based design principles. Although a set of performance requirements (performance objectives) for different return period earthquake events have b...

Seismic Fragility Assessment of RC Frame-Shear Wall Structures Designed According to the Current Chinese Seismic Design Code

After learning from several devastating earthquakes in China in recent years, stricter design criteria have been introduced in the current Chinese seismic design code. To investigate the reliability of the current seismic design code, seismic fragility analyses were performed for 45 10-story reinforced concrete (RC) frame-shear wall structures designed according to the current Chinese seismic d...

Seismic Performance of Torsionally Stiff and Flexible Single Story Buildings Designed Based on Iranian Seismic Code(Standard 2800)

This paper examines differences in performances of a range of torsionally stiff and flexible single story buildings designed with the provisions of Iranian Standard 2800. Seismic nonlinear dynamic time history behavior of eight building models subjected to seven horizontal bi-directional design spectra compatible ground motions are investigated. These models cover a wide range of very torsional...
